New British Standard Scaffold Board
Kitemarked JB Boards:
BSI: John Brash manufactures a full range of Kitemarked boards. The Kitemark is the symbol of BSI third party accreditation, and is a recognised symbol of quality throughout the industry. The John Brash Kitemark Licence Number KM 07800 is stamped onto the end band of each board.
These are premium quality scaffold boards manufactured to the rigorous requirements
of BS EN ISO 9001:2000, under the John Brash quality assurance system.
Key Changes from BS 2482:1982:
- There will be 2 grades for 38mmx225mm scaffold boards. A 1.2m and a 1.5m support span.
- 1.2m support span boards can be either visually or machine graded.
- 1.5m support span boards can only be machine graded to the new settings, the pass rate to derive visual rules would be too low.
- There is a maximum tolerance when setting transoms of 100mm.
- 63mmx225mm boards will have a maximum support span of 2.5m (reduced from 3.25m). This should not present any issues as the maximum lengths in use are either 2.45m Cuplok Omega battens, or 2.418m Kwikstage battens. These boards can either be visually or machine graded.
- End Bands must be fixed using only nails or staples along the side, or edge of the board, but either teeth, staples or nails may be used to secure the ends.
- European Whitewood and European Redwood are the only permitted species when machine grading scaffold boards. Other species can be approved if the test data is verified. The list of species for visual grading is unchanged.
