service from our operation in the East Midlands, this gives us a prime location
close to the European and UK transport networks.

John Brash purchase timber from across Europe using over 100 years’ experience,
sourcing from the optimal sawmills. We deal with both the leading public and private
mills, some of which are global companies.
A responsible purchasing policy is pursued and John Brash carries both FSC and
PEFC accreditation with full chain of custody. John Brash also has a strong corporate
and social responsibility policy and is an Investor in People. We work with and
are participating members of the relevant trade bodies.
Manufacturing in the UK gives us the ability to flex our purchases to take advantage
of the prevailing market conditions. Importantly this gives John Brash control
over the entire process, to ensure that all our timber meets the stringent quality
standards we set ourselves.
As we have our own modern production lines and treatment plants we have total
control over quality. John Brash has set the standard in respect of roofing batten
quality. We were the first to mark batten and most importantly to introduce optical
scanning, to manufacture the first factory graded batten – JB-RED.
JB-RED meets all the performance requirements of BS 5534:2003 and is characterised
by its unique red colouration. It is the only batten that is accredited by the
BRE and carries the ‘Tickmark’ symbol of quality.

Three grades of batten are offered:
JB-RED - fully factory graded to the performance requirements of BS 5534:2003
and treated to BS 8715:2003 with a 60 year guarantee. FSC accredited and marked.
JB-GREEN - traditional batten for on site grading of knots. Regularised, PEFC
marked and treated to BS 5534:2003 with a 60 year guarantee.
JBI - an economical but high grade batten. Sawn, graded on site for knots &
wane and treated to BS 5534:2003 with a 60 year guarantee.
A full range of complimentary sizes and carcassing are offered, in both sawn
and regularised profiles. Sizes range from 6x25 laths to 75mm thick structural
timbers.
