NFRC AWARD WINNERS PREFER JOHN BRASH
The NFRC roofing awards celebrate and recognise outstanding industry achievements.
The award ceremony was held on Friday 14th May in Hammersmith and was attended
by over 550 people from across the roofing spectrum.
Harwood Roofing (Yorkshire) won the Shingles & Shakes category for the work
it did on Camphill Rural Crafts Workshops in Chapelthorpe, Wakefield. The judges
noted the skill and patience shown in tapering every Western Red Cedar shingle
used on the round roof.
The other finalists in the Shingles & Shakes category included Clarke Roofing
Southern Ltd, which used John Brash Western Red Cedar to re-cover the spire on
All Saints Church in Mountfield, East Sussex. The company was recognised for its
sympathetic redesign and careful choice of materials to improve the spire’s durability.
Bracknell Roofing was selected as a finalist for the extensive use of John Brash
Western Red Cedar on Bateman Mews, five affordable homes in Lambeth. The company
was commended for the fine detailing and ability to deal with the complex geometric
shapes on these buildings.
Completing the quartet of finalists that used John Brash Shingles & Shakes
was Clarke Roofing Southern Ltd, who received a further accolade from the judges
for repairs it carried out to St Peter’s Church Spire in Southease, East Sussex,
which again required most shakes cut to taper. John Brash Sweet Chestnut Shakes
were used on this project.
“We are delighted that all four finalists in the NFRC Roofing Awards - Shingles
& Shakes category used John Brash materials,” said Christian Brash of John
Brash. “All four projects presented technical challenges, yet the finalists were
able to demonstrate the skills and experience required to make them outstanding
examples of workmanship. Ultimately, all four projects have shown what can be
achieved by using timber Shingles & Shakes and we support the NFRC in highlighting
this to the wider industry.”
John Brash offers one of the most extensive ranges of Shingles & Shakes in
the UK. The company has recently unveiled a new brochure dedicated to Shingles
& Shakes, which gives detailed information on the options available.
John Brash is committed to environmental best practice and all its timber is
either FSC or PEFC certified, meaning timber is sourced from sustainable forests
only. John Brash timber is supplied with a chain of custody number, verifying
that it is sourced from independently certified and well managed forests.
